GOPIO Canberra chapter organized a Forum on Domestic Violence for Indian Women of Canberra and nearby areas in March 2018.
- Open discussion to understand the cause and depth of Domestic violence in the Indian community of Canberra and nearby areas.
- Developing a strategy to report and reduce these incidences
The main speakers were :
Elizabeth Kikkert, MLA, ACT Legislative and Assembly
– Shadow Minister for Families, Youth and Community Servies
– Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs
Professor Vanita Parekh – She established the ACT’s first forensic medicine unit for sexual assault victims. She received Member of the Order of Australia honours this year (2018) for her significant service to medicine as a specialist in the fields of sexual health and forensic medicine, as an educator and clinician.
Dr Nalini Pati – Currently working as a consultant haematologist at Canberra hospital. He has been into various committees at Royal college of physician and been involved in several projects.
